About me🙋♂️
Hello world! 👋 I'm Hong. I love building meaningful applications using agile methodologies and modern technology stacks. I am dedicated to helping clients achieve their vision and creating something they are involved with from the very beginning. My focus is on delivering products through iterative development and establishing a strong partnership with stakeholders to organically grow and improve user experience.
As a life-long coder, I've come to realize that it's a common misbelief the job of a software engineer is to write code. The job is about solving problems, and code is just the notation we use to describe the solutions to those problems.
I've built applications for e-commerce, facial recognition, data search and discovery, geospatial analysis, and data visualization. I believe the best technology stack is the one that fits the project and the client. I’ve evolved throughout my career from supporting back-end systems to developing monolithic desktop apps to building web apps with docker & microservices.
Currently, I'm excited about 😃:
- Creating front end apps using the ReactJS ecosystem and Apollo GraphQL with your preferred data store.
- Using Typescript on Visual Studio Code for all my coding needs
- Beautiful UI frameworks built in React like Material UI, Semantic UI, and Ant UI. JS styling libraries like styled components and emotion.
- JS Data visualization tools like DeckGL (Geospatial), D3, and VisJS
- DevOps CI/CD workflows in Gitlab integrated with Kubernetes (on Rancher) and Istio.
- Building mobile apps using React Native and Expo
- Using JupyterLab notebooks (with Kubeflow) for data science. Deploying models as rest services using BentoML.
- Tech blogs & analysis like Stratechery, Marker, and DEV.
- Coding blogs 😍 CSS Tricks | Overeacted | Jack Franklin | Kent C Dodds
- Using the pomodoro technique as a way to keep focused on tasks as we work from home during the pandemic.
